Perry Wins Texas Republican Gov. Primary Race Lesson For Republicans

Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010

I do not know very much about Texas Politics but I congratulate Perry for winning. There is a very important lesson to Republicans if they want to win in 2010 and 2012; the lesson is about a third of the way down the news story reported by Fox:

“The Perry campaign from the beginning took a big gamble and chose not to use yard signs, recorded phone canvassing, or direct mail, and instead concentrated on social networking on the Web, grassroots community organizing and, of course, TV.”

Parry won because he thought outside of the typical Republican box. I believe we lost on Measure 66 and 67 in Oregon because of old tired ineffective methods like phone banking. There are two principals I want Republicans to get a hold of, social networking that is getting the information to the people. The information must be ready accessible to the people and not just mostly likely voter or narrow interest groups. The second related to the first is grassroots community organizing. This is not getting the grassroots to pack the office to make annoying phone calls but to be in their neighborhoods, on the streets, in the offices, coffeehouses and more where the people are. It is very important the grassroots given freedom and latitude to whom they reach and not simply given a list of mostly voters filtered by a phone survey. The campaign must give the tools how to reach but leave it to the grassroots in determining whom to reach.

The Lesson of Perry is if we want to win, we must change the way we campaign

Measure 66 and 67 Just The Facts?

Friday, January 15th, 2010

I just got pro Measure 66 and 67 in the mail today; too bad, they are choosey what facts are shown.

How about the facts proponents are living out are leaving out.

Fact:

Among its other features, Measure 67 will increase the fee to incorporate most businesses from $50 to $100. But there is an exception. If the business is already incorporated in another state, then its owners must pay, not $100, but $275 for the privilege of transacting business in Oregon.

Fact:

In a bad economy with unemployment at 11.1%+ the legislators added $3,400,000,000.00 in new spending. Instead of just tightening their belts or leaving spending flat, they chose to raise job-killing taxes.

FACT:

Among its other features, Measure 67 will increase the fee to incorporate most businesses from $50 to $100. But there is an exception. If the business is already incorporated in another state, then its owners must pay, not $100, but $275 for the privilege of transacting business in Oregon.

FACT:

The rich can move to Washington State, no income tax equals no tax money to pay for 3.4 billion in new spending.

LIE:

For C corporations, the corporate minimum income tax will be about one-tenth of one percent of total sales inside Oregon. Small businesses with sales less than $500,000 will also pay just $150. It is important to note that C corporations will pay either the new minimum or the profits tax, never both.

For C corporations, the 1.3% increase in the profits tax applies only to profits above $250,000. In 2013 the tax decreases; only a 1% increase will remain, and will only be applied to profits above $10 million.

Fact:

Measure 67 is a tax on gross receipts (income before expenses and cost of sales) not a tax on profit (after expenses are deducted).

It replaces the current $10 corporate minimum tax for C-corporations with a permanent new tax on a company’s Oregon sales, as follows:

Fact The ultimate insult on the middle class:

Middle class laid off workers will not pay tax on the fist $2400 of unemployment compensation. Gee that swell Salem, give us a tax break on unemployment after your tax hike kills jobs.

Vote No ON 66 and 67

Sometimes I Wonder Why I am a Republican

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

Or I have no faith in the Grass Roots.

I need to interrupt my thoughts in the healthcare debate for this an email from:

Rob Wasinger
Candidate for Congress
1st District of Kansas, Open Seat

First why contact me in Oregon, we got our own problems. As I read his letter the it just get worst.

I am quite intelligent and can see they may political ads. I am turn off when a person uses all caps, underline, and bold fonts to highlight “Key words and phrases”. First, it looks very unprofessional; second, it makes the person look like a loony, tin foil hat conspiracist or a penny stock con artist. .

I also hate how his email appeal lacks any intellectual depth, noting absence of thoughtful written paragraphs and   endless on line attacks and bullets. The Pièce de résistance is this little gem”

“my opponent pushed government funding of a risky procedure to reduce obesity by wrapping “a band around the upper portion of the stomach, restricting the ability to overeat””

One can argue against government funding, still, as somebody who has a problem with obesity, I find his comment very ridiculous. Many morbid obese people have found relief with this surgery. There are many factors that contribute for bad habits to a metabolic system that is totally out of whack. My information comes for my doctor with 20 years experience in internal medicine.

Sadly, the letter is one example of the dearth of intellectual conservatism today.

The people of 1st District needs to look elsewhere for a candidate.

Letter after the cut.

Cost of Conservative to America

Friday, September 4th, 2009

Today some anonymous poster claiming to be a Republican (most likely never was)  posted the usually spiel about how he going sit this one out on another blog. My rely is as follows:

How many conservatives thought it was a great idea to let Obama win against so-called RINO McCain? So for this wonderful strategy has cost the American taxpayer 10 trillion dollars, bigger government, Nationalization of private companies,  possible lost of health choice, death panels, and making America lees safe against terrorism.

If anything a conservative should have learned is a RINO beats a Democrat, Grow up conservatives. Your inaction or wrong action cost America a lot more.
