An Open Letter to Mr. Obama After your Speech.

Friday, August 29th, 2008

Dear Mr. Obama,

You are not my parent and I am not an abandoned hapless child, I am on my own. What you had missed about being on my own is:  I take responsibility for my own actions and provide for my own welfare instead of demanding others to provide for my own welfare.  I was unemployed and had no health care I did not whine to government

It was very hard for me not to miss your campaigning against George Bush. . There is one problem, Bush is not running for reelection.. Your ideas are admirable like giving all American the same health choices as congress, and winning the war in Iraq .Both are espoused by Republicans and opposed by your party not long ago.

Finally you quoted scripture.  “hold firmly, without wavering, to the hope that we confess”. Please let me give the verse in its context:

Hebrews 10:19 through Hebrews 10:26 (NKJV)
19Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus, 20by a new and living way which He consecrated for us, through the veil, that is, His flesh, 21and having a High Priest over the house of God, 22let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. 23Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful. 24And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, 25not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.

The hope spoken here is not in you or the Democratic Party but in the Gospel of Jesus Christ, goodbye and Good Luck Mr. Obama .

An Olympic Example For the Existence of the H1B Visa

Monday, August 18th, 2008

On Tech Republic a bloger on the Sanity check column gives his reasoning for the Need of the H1B visa program hear is my reply:

Quick, where was Women’s all around gold medal wining gymnast Nastia Liukin was born?
Need a hint:

http://www.nbcolympics.com/athletes/athlete=621/bio/index.html

She is the perfect H1B example.
First, the only way she got on the team was to beat out hundreds of aspiring native born American Gymnast. Second not all American gymnast hold the skill level she has. Ones ability to perform is based on physical and psychological factors that are different from one person to the next and not easy substitutable. If we play the entitlement game as the H1B detractor, we have to allow a lesser performing native born gymnast fill the spot on the team before we could ever allow Nastia.

The important fact is no one IT engineer or scientist performs at the same skill level. Knowledge is sticky, that is not easy transferable from one person to another. It is conceivable that a person’s  skill level, personality, intelligence and other factors would make it impossible for a native to substitute for aH1B engineer or vice versa. To prohibit a company from hiring the best person to fulfill the job is a travesty and hurts us in the long run. Populist entitlements such demand American be hired first is an invitation to meritocracy and violation of rights of the company to trade with whomever the company wishes to. There is no such thing a right to a job.

Talk Radio Dumb Down Conservatism

Saturday, August 9th, 2008

On another board  it is reported how Rush blurts his  proclamation “we’re screwed” and that it will take ten years to undo what the liberal democrats will do. He is right and if he looking for the cause he just need to look into the mirror.  While talk  radio had provide a way to communicate ideas and count the bias of the mainstream media it ha done so at the cost of sound and rational debate,  abandonment of principal of individual liberty and Capitalism and finally giving the illusion of political power while driving the masses form the two part system.

For example I bring Rush Limbaugh to you attention, his use of ad hominem arguments, sweeping generalizations other logical fallacies, and repetitive mantras to prove his point. Limbaugh is not alone; I include Victoria Taff, Lars Larson, and the worst of the worst Michel Savage. The only shining star is Denis Pager and Michel Medved.

I am conservative in the vain of Barry Goldwater, William F Buckley, and Ronald Reagan men of intellect and principals.  I came to conservatism due to its commitment to individual liberty and capitalism while I gave very little thought to social conservatism even as a fundamentalist Christian.  I see the debate on immigration being festered by talk radio causing not just loss Hispanic and business vote but loss of focus on real issues such as Energy and Terrorism.  Talk radio gives the illusion of power but if one wants to change the system, calling talk radio does not cut it. One needs to get involve by become PCP and volunteering for campaigns.
