Measure 66 67 Passes

Tuesday, January 26th, 2010

First of al I am never under an illusion this would not be a tough fight. It was not even close.  It is easy to vote to put the burden on others. If the top 2% and big companies do not respond in kind by moving jobs out of state, stop given to charities and the arts, and closing business, the left have won.  The middle and poor need to learn there is consequences for ones vote

What I am afraid is what this says for 2010 in Oregon. The victory could be a foreshadow to 2010. Not only business will discouraged to come to Oregon the GOP will be less inclined to invest resources and time  in Oregon campaigns and will not attract good people to run against Democrats in Oregon.

To me I ready to give up the fight and move on with my life perhaps to another state. I need to see results first.

Measure 66 and 67 Just The Facts?

Friday, January 15th, 2010

I just got pro Measure 66 and 67 in the mail today; too bad, they are choosey what facts are shown.

How about the facts proponents are living out are leaving out.

Fact:

Among its other features, Measure 67 will increase the fee to incorporate most businesses from $50 to $100. But there is an exception. If the business is already incorporated in another state, then its owners must pay, not $100, but $275 for the privilege of transacting business in Oregon.

Fact:

In a bad economy with unemployment at 11.1%+ the legislators added $3,400,000,000.00 in new spending. Instead of just tightening their belts or leaving spending flat, they chose to raise job-killing taxes.

FACT:

Among its other features, Measure 67 will increase the fee to incorporate most businesses from $50 to $100. But there is an exception. If the business is already incorporated in another state, then its owners must pay, not $100, but $275 for the privilege of transacting business in Oregon.

FACT:

The rich can move to Washington State, no income tax equals no tax money to pay for 3.4 billion in new spending.

LIE:

For C corporations, the corporate minimum income tax will be about one-tenth of one percent of total sales inside Oregon. Small businesses with sales less than $500,000 will also pay just $150. It is important to note that C corporations will pay either the new minimum or the profits tax, never both.

For C corporations, the 1.3% increase in the profits tax applies only to profits above $250,000. In 2013 the tax decreases; only a 1% increase will remain, and will only be applied to profits above $10 million.

Fact:

Measure 67 is a tax on gross receipts (income before expenses and cost of sales) not a tax on profit (after expenses are deducted).

It replaces the current $10 corporate minimum tax for C-corporations with a permanent new tax on a company’s Oregon sales, as follows:

Fact The ultimate insult on the middle class:

Middle class laid off workers will not pay tax on the fist $2400 of unemployment compensation. Gee that swell Salem, give us a tax break on unemployment after your tax hike kills jobs.
