The Convention: NewCon\u00a0 3<\/p>\n
The Place:\u00a0 Lloyd\u2019s Center\u00a0 Double Tree Inn, Portland Oregon<\/p>\n
The Dates\u00a0 2-4 Jan 2015.<\/p>\n
Newcon is\u00a0 Portland fan ran multi-genre convention.\u00a0 This the third\u00a0 year running. I took\u00a0 Big Kitty Friday, Kyju Kitty Saturday and\u00a0\u00a0 Chococat Sunday plushies.<\/p>\n

Friday: I arrived later than I wanted to and missed the opening ceremony . There was not much in the way of panels \u00a0that interested me on Friday. \u00a0I hung around until 3:00pm to\u00a0 attend the AMV contest. It great to see Guy back at the helm.\u00a0 Then I went to\u00a0 the\u00a0 Defining Steam Punk Panel.\u00a0 I duck in and out \u00a0of the Video room and \u00a0in to Main events to catch \u00a0\u00a0a few songs by Batmainia; a local band that played original and cover songs dressed up in Batman\u00a0 \/ and a Batgirls costumes ; very appropriate \u00a0for\u00a0 Newcon.<\/p>\n
Saturday I head back \u00a0to the \u00a0con hotel early and had breakfast at the hotel.\u00a0 \u00a0First on the list was Creature Creation with Ryan Wells. Ryan is a fantastic cosplayer\u00a0 and customers. His works look like a it was built by a professional experienced \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0film and TV \u00a0costume and prop builder but many of his works were often \u00a0the first time he attempt it.\u00a0 Then it was to \u201cWatch this, Not that\u201d \u00a0and gun gaffs panel.\u00a0 I also lounged \u00a0about talked to many other fans and\u00a0 taking in the convention. \u00a0For \u00a0a group of amateurs\u00a0 the anime\u00a0 science fiction theater 3000 was well done. I ordered pizza and\u00a0 hung around \u00a0for the\u00a0 AMV showing to late \u00a0night before heading home.<\/p>\n
Sunday :
\nAfter church headed back to the\u00a0 con hotel after lunch. \u00a0Today was more like\u00a0 squeeze much as I can out of the convention . I attended\u00a0 \u00a0one panel on patents \u00a0Jason Trost screening How to Save Us, it was an interesting\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0independent\u00a0 horror\u00a0 film even though he biffed the soldering scene.<\/p>\n
The good: being back at the con scene after missing Orycon and Rose City comic con<\/p>\n
The bad: just a minor hiccup at registration on Friday. A minor quibble is we need more\u00a0\u00a0 non anime content.<\/p>\n
Newcon\u2019s growth shows that\u00a0 the convention has attracted \u00a0interest in the anime and geek community in Portland, demonstrating the need for a multi-genre fan base convention. \u00a0I look forward to Newcon 4.<\/p>\n\n\t\t
