Usually Patch does a good job bring up stories, but he has at times have San Francisco\u00a0 queer culture\u00a0 myopic view which come across as declaring a generalization\u00a0 of\u00a0 furry fandom, in my opinion.\u00a0.\u00a0 \u00a0I am sorry Patch,\u00a0\u00a0words means things. When we look a the use of\u00a0 idiom of Mecca\u00a0 it can be a\u00a0 palace of importance\u00a0 that attracts\u00a0\u00a0 a lot of people\u00a0 or a center\u00a0 of importance people look to i.e. Silicon Valley as a Mecca of the tech world. I confess\u00a0\u00a0 I may be reading too much to Patch\u2019s ranting of\u00a0 SF being the fury mecca . Still I objected to it\u00a0 and here was his reply in another column.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThis story is dedicated to furry\u00a0friend Acton, a \u201cconservative activist\u201d and\u00a0Hello Kitty collector\u00a0who\u00a0<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/dogpatchpress.wordpress.com\/2015\/06\/22\/furry-mecca-newsdump\/comment-page-1\/#comment-1307\"><em>gets very upset<\/em><\/a><em>\u00a0to see\u00a0these events welcomed by the community. He insists that he is\u00a0\u201c100% heterosexual\u201d, and wants you to stop making him think about a diesel driving daddy bear cuddling up to read Hello Kitty bedtime stories with him. Express yourself, hun! This\u00a0dedication\u00a0is brought to you by the color pink, and the word<\/em><em>\u00a0<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Apophasis\"><em>Apophasis.<\/em><\/a><em>\u201d<\/em><em>\u00a0<\/em><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>A real fine piece of\u00a0 Apophasis. \u00a0First of all, there \u00a0\u00a0many male \u00a0heterosexuals and\u00a0 LGBT who are\u00a0 Hello Kitty fans, but sexual \u00a0orientation \u00a0does\u00a0 not matter. \u00a0\u00a0Oh yes \u00a0I know , according to\u00a0 Christine\u00a0 R. Yano in her book, Pink Globalization: Hello Kitty&#8217;s Trek across the Pacific, Hello Kitty\u00a0 is the unofficial\u00a0\u00a0 mascot of gay community.\u00a0 \u00a0Still many male fan are Heterosexual and Homosexual.\u00a0 But loving Hello Kitty does not make one\u00a0 Gay.<\/p>\n<p>I am\u00a0 100%\u00a0 Heterosexual and not\u00a0 a new manifestation of\u00a0 Crusader Cat or a meber of Westboro &#8220;Baptist&#8221; (I dare not call them a church)\u00a0. I have not \u00a0been involved\u00a0 in conservative causes\u00a0 since 2012 when I left both\u00a0 conservatism and\u00a0 the Republican party over how conservatives \u00a0abandoned limited government. These day I consider myself a libertarian.<\/p>\n<p>Being around\u00a0 LGBT\u00a0 in the furry fandom made me realized\u00a0 there is no monolithic\u00a0 idea of LGBT culture as some activist\u00a0 tries to make \u00a0it.\u00a0 A Gay man in the East Cost or Midwest\u00a0 may object the idea of the Bay Area\u00a0 the Mecca\u00a0 of\u00a0 gay culture. \u00a0In the same way\u00a0 many furs\u00a0 would not consider the bay Area queer culture\u00a0\u00a0 as a monolithic\u00a0 mecca \u00a0of Furry Fandom. \u00a0Another issue is how some will think by participating. \u00a0From another post I made (1.):<\/p>\n<p>In a comments on\u00a0<a style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flayrah.com\/3377\/opinion-misconceptions-about-origins-furry-fandom\">Opinion: Misconceptions about the origins of furry fandom<\/a>\u00a0Calbel summed up the problem :<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;\">\u201c&gt; Are you implying that someone pulling a stunt like this is somehow my fault?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;\">I\u2019m not implying anything; I\u2019m stating the obvious. Putting ads for the convention in a gay lifestyle magazine will have a natural tendency to attract people who think the convention is about being gay. &#8220;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The same could be said about Gay Pride if\u00a0 furry is not\u00a0 put in context we are a\u00a0 fandom the contains LGBT elements but not an LGBT fandom.<\/p>\n<p>Another problem\u00a0is unnecessary\u00a0 burden \u00a0many of us who are Christian Furries and growing number of pre-adolescent to young teen furs who like the fandom for fursuits and cute art but not interested in the sexuality.
