The Con: Kumoricon 2016<\/p>\n
The Place: Oregon Convention center<\/p>\n
The dates\u00a0 28- 30 October\u00a0 2016<\/p>\n
Kumoricon is Portland\u2019s premier Anime convention. This\u00a0 year, Kumoricon became the second geek convention to \u00a0moved into the\u00a0 convention center. My 26\u201d Hello Kitty was my companion on Friday, My Kigu Kitty on Saturday and Chococat was my companion on Sunday.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Friday \u2013 Saturday:<\/p>\n
Because I started a new job, I\u00a0 decide not to take\u00a0 ether PTO or unpaid time off.\u00a0 I picked up my bandage on\u00a0 Thursday. There was\u00a0 not much in the way of panels I wanted to do\u00a0 on Friday so I just hung around until late and went home.<\/p>\n
Saturday,\u00a0 I got \u00a0to the convention center\u00a0 9:00am and straight to\u00a0 my panel room\u00a0 to set up form my Otaku 25+ panel ; we did have a smaller number\u00a0 due to the early morning\u00a0 panel. \u00a0Fans on the Job, a panel about \u00a0being a geek and work,\u00a0 was next. Sadly there were\u00a0 only two of us at the panel.\u00a0 Next I was off \u00a0to one \u00a0of few\u00a0 industry panels at\u00a0 Kumoricon put on by Studio TRIGGER. \u00a0The move to October allows Kumoricon to attract guest from Japan other than\u00a0 the usual \u00a0Funamtion, Dark Horse, and\u00a0 American\u00a0 voice \u00a0actors.\u00a0\u00a0 This year I\u00a0 attended the Coplay contest. Then \u00a0I heeded out for dinner\u00a0 and got a parking ticket because they changed the rules to prohibit restaurant parking. I went back\u00a0 to the convention center, there was not much in the way of\u00a0 non 18+ panels but I did get to watch \u00be of\u00a0 The Beast and the Boy.\u00a0 I headed home after that.<\/p>\n
Sunday:<\/p>\n
I rush down after church but only found\u00a0 that the\u00a0 Lost in Translation panel was canceled. I just shopped around bought\u00a0 an item , hung around with my fellow furries, and\u00a0 sat in to watch the AMV contest winners\u00a0 and closing ceremonies. I made\u00a0 my way to the rant and rave before calling it a con.<\/p>\n
The Good:<\/p>\n
The conventions center was roomy and\u00a0 the dealers den\u00a0 and gaming\u00a0 best\u00a0 presented compared to all other local\u00a0 cons; no more parking lot dungeon. Not competing with Ox Fest at Ester Shores park. \u00a0Having special\u00a0 guest from Japan<\/p>\n
The Bad:<\/p>\n
Prices was high\u00a0 see my Rose City Comic Con report<\/p>\n
The Ugly:<\/p>\n
Getting a parking ticket; I did not know there tighten the parking regulations near Lloyds\u2019 Center.<\/p>\n
I was one of the skeptics when\u00a0\u00a0 Kumoricon\u00a0 announced that the convention was going to move from Vancouver Hilton to the Oregon Convention Center in October during a school Year .\u00a0 I thought\u00a0 the convention would have a\u00a0 decrease in attendance. Not only was wrong,\u00a0 the paid attendance grew to 7030. I was pleasantly\u00a0 proved my wrong. All I have to say in congrats\u00a0 Kumoricon.<\/p>\n
