Furry Convention of Unacceptable Adults’ Scars One Hotel Guest’s Cheerleading Children for Life

Something is rotten in the state of Media.
This reminds me about Northern California Volleyball Association flap.
Except for an inflammatory title, Gaker waste of broadband by regurgitating other site’s stories.
As for TonyA there is something rotten about it. According to another article Tony A had made the complaint in January 2013 for a stay in Feb 2012. The event checks out there was a cheer event on the same weekend of Furry Fiesta but I note no con report noting any interacting between those going to the cheer event and Fury Fiesta.
“A customer known as Tony A. left a review on TripAdvisor about his experience at the Crowne Plaza North Dallas-Addison when the furry convention was in town. Tony A. claims they stayed at the hotel in February 2012, but they did not post the review until January 2013. The question is
http://www.travelerstoday.com/articles/4997/20130225/guest-leaves-scathing-review-texas-hotel-holding-furry-convention-video.htm”
Second thing Travel advisor has removed his comments; probably they are so inflammatory; The of his charges are very vague.
“First of all, I like to bring up the ineptitude of the groups department on scheduling a Furry Convention of unacceptable adults, along with a young girls and boys cheerleading team. The things that our children (ages 4-17) witnessed there, are the kinds of things that we as parents hate to even think that they would be exposed to. My 10 year old daughter and my 8 year old son witnessed lude and lascivious behavior in the pool, outside by these furry people.”
“These “people” if I can call them that [My comment: argumentum ad hominem], were doing unspeakable things [comment: very vague does not give concrete examples] outside on the hallways and in their rooms with their doors open.”
“I am not sure if you folks know what a Furry Rave is. A regular rave is a party where folks dance, drink, party and do their drugs. A regular rave would have been unacceptable then. A Furry Rave included more lude and lascivious behavior, along with the other factors included in a regular rave. That is not only unacceptable for a guest, it should have been unacceptable to this hotel. How did I find out all of these details about this “rave” and what these furry conventions are about? GOOGLE!!!!! How hard is it for someone to do a little due diligence before they schedule something like this? This research took me 5 MINUTES to do. How do these people schedule these two groups together????”
Tony is going to bases his incendiary comment on five minuet search on Goggle. He was at the con hotel. He could at least provide some evidence. By the way I have attended Furry, Anime, Science Fiction, Comiccon, and multi-Genre fan conventions, they a have raves and there is just people dancing. No lewd activity, no drugs. Just a lot of dancing, Techno and Dub step
So what we have the worst case of Sports /Event Helicopter parents, the type who lives insufficient narcissistic lives through their children, pushing their kids where it almost child abuse and pushing everybody else out of the way. That or ether, noting the vagueness and lateness of the complaint, this is an example of social network extortion, the person blackmails the business by threatening to leave a bad reviews less they get freebees and favorable treatment.

2012 A Year in Review and 2013 Plans

2012 was a busy year for me. My con schedule was

Wonder Northwest,  Multi Genre geek 26 to 27 Mar

Kumoricon, Anime 1st though 3rd September

The Otaku over 25 panel  I hosted grew from 35 to over 55 attendees.

Rose city Comic Con, Comic industry general pop culture,  8th – 9th September

(My return to ) Rainfurrest, Furry, 27 through 30 September

Orycon, Science fiction, 2nd – 4th November

NewCon PDX multi-genre (anime, sf, fantasy) 29 -30 December

Except for Rainfurrest all other conventions were at Portland / Vancouver WA area. It had been a record breaking year. I also have gotten a reputation as the crazy guy with the big Hello Kitty plushie.  There been some hitches including a car break-in where my giant Hello Kitty was stolen.

2013 convention planning

I am sticking local this year, with 19000 in debt and loss of job in May I not condition or desire to travel out of region. In addition to keep within a budget, I do not see to attend any every out of state furry con.

I will attend Wonder Northwest, a day at Steam Con (steam punk), Orycon, Kumoricon, and Newcon. I will do the Otaku over 25 panel and will work on a Fury 101 / furry in anime panel for  Kumoricon; there may be an opportunity for a furry panel at Orycon and NewCon.  Rose City Comic-con is a wild card; the news is they are partnering with Emerald City Comic Con. On the plus it will being a truly comic con to Portland, the bad is high price to attend, long lines, and $100 if one want an autograph con, I may give it a pass. I like when the geek con keeps it local, it is why we need Wonder Northwest and NewCon.

NewCon PDX Convention Report

The CON : NewCon PDX

The Place: Crowne Plaza Hotel, Portland Oregon

Newcon PDX is a new a multi-genre convention (Anime, Fantasy and Science Fiction). Both my big Hello Kitties was my accompanying plushies.

Saturday:  I when out for breakfast and headed out to the convention site, the line registration was not very large.  I attended Bizarre War Machines of the Steam Punk Era; a panel examining real life war machines that look like out of a steampunk novel. Other than that I hung around taking pictures and stepped in and out of the Video Room for a triple header of savaging and lampooning movies I detest.  Rifftrax is founded by three alumni of Mystery Science Fiction Theater 3000, their product is a separate mp3 commentary track that is synced to the DVD.  I watched Rifftrax lampoon The Hunger Games and Avatar; two movies I detested and cannot stand and would not watch another way. I lost track of time and, went out to a late dinner before check out the con and going back home.

Sunday: went back to the convention after church. I exchange my 28in Hello Kitty Plush for the 32 In Hello Kitty plush. I attended the Lost in translation Lisle Wilkerson, a voice actress ran the panel. The issue was the problems translation from Japanese to English and vice versa. She answered one of my suspicions about how some of the story is lost during subbing anime. The loss of the story is why I watch anime twice, once dubbed and the second time subbed. The rest of the day I pop in an out of the panel room, video room and took more pictures. I went out for a early dinner at a Chinese Restaurant down town. Then I went back to squeeze out every last second out of Newcon.  By  that time things were winding down too fast, and were falling into disarray. The AMC and Evangelion panels were no-shows, but the dance was well attended. Guy kept the video room going until it was time to break things down and I stayed in the panel room playing word games until 12:00am before calling it a con.

The: Good:  Just having a end of a year con replacing  Mewcon. Second Guy keeping things going in the video room.

The Bad: lack of communication before the convention, I was not sure there were going to be a convention and the same issue how things seem to falling apart Sunday Evening. I been told these issue will be addressed.

The Ugly: Nothing

I as one missed MewCon and congratulate the staff for their success and thank them for their hard work.  I look forward for Newcon 2013/2014.

Orycon 34 Con Report

The Convention : Orycon 34

The theme:  Apocalypse How?

The place: Lloyd’s Center double Tree Inn , Portland Oregon

The dates: 2nd – 4th November 12, 2012

Orycon is the premiere Science Fiction convention in Oregon.  This Year my big Hello Kitty Plush was the accompanying plush.

Friday:

Not wanting to take an unpaid time off, I went to and left work early. First stop was registration, it went very fast. Next I attending the rest of the AMV clinic, now having some tools I some question, now just getting but to sit down and use them.  I was distracted and missed a few panels, others panels that were published for the program you own con did not happen. The convention did not get off to a good start.  I went to opening ceremonies. It’s not a good omen if the opening ceremonies’ were sparsely   attended; no more that 30 people attended.  I went out to dinner and came back for the DoubleClicks Concert, they are a nerd-folk duo based in Portland, Oregon that plays songs of Star Trek, D and D, finding geek love, (in the wrong places). I seen part of their set at Rose City Comic Con; they were excellent and very funny. I got a cheap beer afterwards and went home for the evening.

Saturday:

I side to go for the breakfast buffet at the Hotel.  I got sidetrack from any panels I wanted to attend because I spent a good part of the morning in video room watching the British Hitchhiker guide to the Galaxy in all its 1980’s cheesy special effects.  I wanted to see how they handled deep thought and the dish of the day. Lunch go diverted to the con suite, it was a bit touchy when Occupy Portland jerks used the park across the hotel for their protest.  There not much in the way panes so I did a little reading room roulette, I just sat in reading room and waited for whoever to arrive for their reading, I got Richard A Lovett; I was impressed I bought a book of his short stories and ran Mary E. Lowd and blow the rest of my con book budget, picking up Otters in space.

Latter I went out an early dinner because I want to attend a show of Children of Terra Firma, a film by local independent SF/fantasy film makers. I got a taste of independent SF and fantasy films at Northwest Wonder and Rose City comic Con, it started to become an interesting niche for me.  After than I hung around and cruised the room parties. There we all types some with adult beverages some with not. There was a party for everybody.  Finally I went down to the main floor to catch Guy’s AMV viewing; do  to a temporal shift caused by a flux capacitor demonstration, quantum physics prank  or daylight saving time ending, stayed to  2:00am but the time shifted back to 1:00AM and I  did not leave to con till 1:30AM.

Sunday:

After church I rushed down to catch the Origin of fandom panel, this was a very interesting panel dealing with the origins of the Science Faction Fandom. The big takeaway was it was started in the 20’s by young men and teens creating clubs. Often these clubs did not last long because of the 3 / 4 rule: three votes for A, and four voted for B. The description of the clubs and drama remind much of furry fandom today; furthermore, the big flap over excluding six Futurians for the fort Worldcon in 1939 reminds me of the Uncle Kage vs., Insane Kangaroo today. One of the panels know the early pioneers of the furry fandom, to bad I could not have a longer talk with him.  The rest of the time I tried to run out the clock hanging around the con suite and video until it closed because I had a furmeet at 7:00pm. Failing I left the con around 5:00pm.

The Good:

I love the Doubleclicks concert

The Origins of the fandom panel.

The Bad:

Programming, notwithstanding Orycon did improve the panel’s selections over last year, but my beef with publishing of programming. For example Orycon wanting until the last week to publish the schedule on line and while a great idea, not publishing the create you own con until a few weeks before the convention. We not given enough time to create a panel we need at least a few months to properly prepare ourselves.

The Ugly

Sparsely attend opening ceremony. I been to past Orycon, Kumoricon,  and Ranfurrest,  Even smaller cons like  Furry Fiesta 2009 and  All Fur Fun. I never see pitifully attended opening ceremony. Perhaps its time to The Not Ready For Sidereal Time Players to retire.

Ugly Political correctness and identity  politics  There was  a big flap over the Autism panel it seems they did not  have somebody  with autism on it, Now having  a High autistic brother I was interested in it but after  seeing  the profanity written post on other sites, I can now see why Orycon  canceled the panel.

Over all I felt had a very good time, except for a few hitches I say Orycon 34 was much improve over Orycon 33.
