A little Furcon That Said No

A small convention, Free Fur All, held their convention in Tulsa Oklahoma. The attendance was 207 persons and they raised $8000.00 for charity. It would be an uneventful furcon  con except Free Fur All said one word that set the woke twitter mob on fire; the word is:

NO

The convention billed itself as:

Prepare For A Classic Road Trip!

They don’t make things like they used to. This year we’re celebrating anthro by getting back to our routes where it all started- a love for animals.

Whether you come from near or far, from Chicago or the LA side, join us on a road trip to the American heartland along the Mother Road, Route 66, for America’s Anthro Convention in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and don’t forget to take that left-turn at Albuquerque!

Washington Examiner Hypes RBCC Comment and Gets it Wrong

The Washington Examiner turned a molehill into a mountain based on a single word in a RNCC Tweet.  One can ask was necessary for the NRCC to throw out the furry word.  Still this much ado about nothing. I find the Washington Examiner more at fault by twisting the RNCC post. Second the Examiner  paints a distorted and inaccurate  overused media statement that  Furries area subculture that dress up in animal costumes and  for twisting  of the Fur Science 2011 data out of context.

“A number of studies have demonstrated that some of those interested in furry fandom view the subculture as a sexual fetish as well. According to a 2011 study by the Anthropomorphic Research Project, one-third of furries interviewed said that “sexual attraction to the content in the fandom is an important part of their furry participation.” The author of the story  gave a poor  attempt of a apology on Twitter.

Better would be the 2018 statement on sexuality

“This is in line with several other findings from past studies suggesting that, despite the perception by many of furry as a fetish, for most furries this is not the case, though furries may themselves be prone to erroneously believing this stereotype about other furries. It should also be noted that this is not to say that there are not furries for whom the fandom is a fetish – prior research suggests that this is likely the case for about 5-10% of the furry fandom. Nor is there anything wrong with furry being a fetish for these folks. Instead, we are simply pointing out that it would be inaccurate to categorize furries as a group as being fetish-based, as it would be describing the group as a whole based on a minority within the group.” 1.

If anything good, the mainstream press has ignored this story.

I still find fault with RNCC. There are very good reasons to oppose Beto O Rouke, why bring up furry and twist him wearing a mask as part of a band.

Now let say for the record, I became a Furry during the peak of my involvement with the Republican Party (i.e. before Trump). My Fursona is a more conservative than I am, and a Republican Black Bear.    I often joke around wanting to be the highest ranking elected Furry Republican and my favorite comic strip is Mallard Fillmore a comic about an anthropomorphic conservative Duck.  I see this as just silliness to bring up furry as something negative.

CNN does fury

Let me preference what I going to post with a quote and a statement:

Some time ago, Commentator Dennis Prager said about TV news is the news is not reporting the facts but commentary with pictures. Second, I always thought about the modern news media is that the narrative is already written, the media is just looking for the actors.

With above in mind, this is Life with Lisa Ling “Furry Nation”, billed as inside a misunderstood culture. The story is a touching human-interest story that falls short of its main goal because of CNN’s bias reporting by injecting old stereotypes of furries are people who dress up in animal costumes and have mental health issues.  Not all have fursuits or struggle with mental health issues and only about 20% of furries own fursuits.  For many the fandom is not a crutch but a means of expressing creativity.

News Site Censorship?

Is time  to dump furry news sites being  harmful to the fandom.

This is my response to  an article posted on Flayrah

Dog Patch Press by Patch O Fur has banned from commenting for the one time I dare to question his vision for the fandom. My response is no sweat off my back I got my own furry blog. I do not need to cast pearls among the swine.

What furry news is doing is not censorship. Only government can censor and is exclusively prohibited by the 1st amendment of the US Constitution.   Private sites property like Flayrah, Furry News, and Dog Patch press do not come under the 1st amendment and are free to set commenting policy and remove comments on their site even though it may or may not hurt their reputation. In this case, I cannot blame them. What RooView is doing is borderline harassment or just being a big pain I am guilty of this myself; due to lack of civility I disabled all comments on my Word Press blog, you can create your own blog.

There is a bigger problem with theses “news” sites; these sites were good for review furry media and events but their crusades to reform the fandom in their image have pushed the fandom off the rails. Fury fandom is about the love of art, literature, costuming, and role-playing involving anthropomorphic animals.   Furry not about some persons immature, self-centered, trigged, safe space, feelings because somebody is wears, armband, and that has nothing to do with Nazis. If one does not 2 the ranting Griffin, performances, for example, do as I do by not attending. When I joined the fandom in 2006, I was aware there is a lot I object to, from pornography, fetishism and cub furs. I realize I do not have to go to their events or buy their media and still be a fury.   I do not need to go on a half-cocked crusade of personal attacks. Now we have individuals with their own agenda tearing the fandom apart.

It time the fury fandom get back to cartoon animals than politics of persona destruction. It perhaps time to evaluate do these new sites, and ask are these news sites are a benefit or a determent to the fandom. I feel much of the drama is 50% person and 50% news bloggers continuing the fan the flames. It is time to ignore, these amateur efforts like Flayrah, Dog Patch Press, World in RooView, Furry Times, and a host of YouTube blogs as being more destructive to the fandom. If somebody objects to some expression, that person needs to deal with it or time to leave the fandom and do so quietly.

Fake News Antifascist Witch Hunts and Left Wing Protest

There been a spat of fake news concerning  so called right wing elements in the furry fandom .  The report was constructed around a few member and tweets instead of serious investigative journalism. I dare say Motherbod has much credibility as Alt-Right and that is not saying much for ether. There no corresponding report in establish news media or mention of alt-furries  in overtly White Supremacist sites like Stormfront.
