A few thoughts from many different comments on other blogs I made: Could a Christian acknowledge the right to form civil contracts inc including marriage for Homosexuals?
It has to do with the principles of two kingdoms in reference to the civil kingdom. The civil kingdom who only charge is to protect the life and liberty of its citizens and must allow individuals adult to make private social contracts as long as force and fraud is not employed. I look at gay marriage in the same way as heterosexuals living together outside of marriage, while it is sin its, it should not be illegal; it is not role of government to prohibit nor force other to support gay marriage.
1 Corinthians 1:18
English Standard Version (ESV)
18 For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
1 Corinthians 2:14-16
English Standard Version (ESV)
14 The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned. 15 The spiritual person judges all things, but is himself to be judged by no one. 16 “For who has understood the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?” But we have the mind of Christ.
Romans 8:5-8
English Standard Version (ESV)
5 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. 6 For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace. 7 For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God’s law; indeed, it cannot. 8 Those who are in the flesh cannot please God.
There is a common thread I want to examine in the above scripture quotes is the carnal man by nature is opposed and hostile to the things of God, then why did we in trust secular man with the promoting marriage, and while I am at it, the Education system? In my opinion the Christians were setting themselves up for a fall for decades when it allowed the secular therefore naturally hostile to God (Romans 8: 7,8), government to promote marriage and the education system. It is why I take a libertarian approach that acknowledge the right to two consenting adults to enter contracts including marriage but no right to demand support from a third party. Furthermore we need to take a look at the welfare state, why should one should be entitled to what other produce because one is married. Why should a married family who useless more of state resources (schools , parks, welfare) and pay less of the share of the tax burden.
As I look at gay marriage in the same way I look at heterosexual couples living together and “sleeping together” ousted marriage, immoral but not necessarily illegal.
Gay marriage should put to death this silly culture war, If we want to regenerate culture it will not happen until God regenerate the person’s heat and only through the proclamation of the Gospel.
