Talk Radio Dumbs Down Conservatism

On another board, it was reported how Rush blurts his  proclamation “we’re screwed” and that it will take ten years to undo what the liberal democrats will do under the Obama administration. He is right and if he is looking for the cause, he needs to look into the mirror.  While talk  radio had provide a way to communicate ideas and counter the bias of the mainstream media, it has done so at the cost of sound and rational debate, abandonment of principal of individual liberty and Capitalism and finally giving the illusion of political power while driving Reganism and classical liberalism from  the GOP.

For example, I bring Rush Limbaugh to your attention, his use of ad hominem arguments, sweeping generalizations other logical fallacies, and repetitive mantras to prove his point. Limbaugh is not alone; I include Victoria Taff, Lars Larson, and the worst of the worst Michel Savage. The only shining star is Denis Pager and Michel Medved.

I am conservative in the vein of Barry Goldwater, William F Buckley, and Ronald Reagan men of intellect and principals.  I came to conservatism due to its commitment to individual liberty and capitalism while I gave little thought to social conservatism even as a fundamentalist Christian.  I see the debate on immigration being festered by talk radio causing not just loss Hispanic and business vote but loss of focus on real issues such as Energy and Terrorism.  Talk radio gives the illusion of power but if one wants to change the system, calling talk radio does not cut it. One needs to get involve by become PCP and volunteering for campaigns.
