How Liberals Look at the Unemplyed

Thanks to PolitZoid

This is a fine example why the left bothers me. The left looks at us unemployed as how much more entitlements they can offer than how the left can retun us to productive work and no longer need  entitlements. I not against welfare but the gaols is not how much the state can provide but how little its citizens need of  welfare.

Mr. Rosen’s Broken Unemployment Window

The 405 club is unemployment blog I despise. The blog demonstrates the problem I have with the left while unemployed: The blog is more about how to get and stay on more entitlements than returning American workers to productive work. A recent post tells of Gregg Rosen, Co-Founder of the American 99’ers Union discusses the macroeconomic benefits of extending unemployment insurance. The problem is it based of an economic fallacy.

Mr Rosen’s argument is a classic broken window fallacy, If vandals broke bakers shop’s window, the baker will now have to purchase an new window and hire somebody to install it. Mr. Rosen would say the baker should be glad that the baker has stimulated the economy by replacing the window. What Mr. Rosen omits is the bake has to spend capital he could have used to hire workers or buy new equipment.

Musings of an Unemployed Tech Part 2.0

They are banging at my door to get in.

I guess there signs the economy is getting better or maybe not. I am getting more and more calls from temporary firm recruiters digging for temporary contract gold; sadly, many of these firms are bottom feeders with low balling wages and no benefits. The line is the same. “We are a national staffing firm and are currently seeking a (insert position) for a prominent client of ours.” This may sound great but one may want step back before saying yes.

I would like to leave the following advice when the call is coming in. First, of all most important unless you know the company, do not automatically accept the offer to submit; some companies are good other companies are just bottom feeders looking to get their feet in the door. May of them will lowball the wage and offer squat for benefits. The second equally important is to know thy company. Get to know the client company; some have exclusive relations with a staffing firm. Find which staffing firm has people located at the client’s campus. Important is many bottom feeding temporary agencies will flat out lie and say they have an exclusive relationship when the film are only are third party submitters. Finally keep good records of each submission. The last thing you need is disqualification from a position you are applying to due to a double submission.

I going to split my thoughts on the economic and retraining into separate post.

Immigration Christian vs Secular Conservatism

Recently the Portland Tribune ran a story What would Jesus do about immigrants? I agree with most of the article that a middle way solution to the immigration issue need to be found; a solution between absolute amnesty on the left and absolute restrictionism on the right. A solution that respects that we are we are all created in the image of God, and respect the clear scriptural teaching and strangers among us.
Leviticus 19:33-34 (NKJV)

33‘And if a stranger dwells with you in your land, you shall not mistreat him. 34The stranger who dwells among you shall be to you as one born among you, and you shall love him as yourself; for you were strangers in the land of Egypt: I am the LORD your God.

What I have found disturbing was the flippant response by Jim Ludwick of Oregon Oregonians for Immigration Reform hen he said “To be very crass about it, they’re looking for members, and I think that’s partly what’s driving it.”

I find Mr  Ludwicjk comment  insulting to Christians. Our motivation is not numbers but our duty to follow Christ revealed and commanded in scriptures.

This incident with Ludwick should give concern Christian cultural conservatives who we allow to influence our political beliefs. Mr. Ludwick statement raises my own awareness that even in Conservatism there are differences of worldview of religious and secular conservatives.  On the religious conservative side, there is the Judeo Christian ethic that we all are God creation and our rights and liberties com not from  the consensus of man but from God. Even the verse Leviticus 19:33-34 conveys the ideas of right from God. Israel shall not mistreat the stranger and to be to Israel as one born among them; Why, because the stranger is a special creation of God.  Contrast that to the secular view of protecting secular institutions for the reasons of national sovereignty, entitlement  Ie job only belong to Americans , and conservative political power ( the immigrant tend  to vote democrat). To protect these intuitions even if conservative actions violate  the rights to immigrants that comes from God.

As I listen to conservative talk radios show host or the Tea Party We need to be caution and discerning that we do not compromise our faith in Christ by following the influences of secular cultural conservatism.
