Hello Kitty For Men Part II

There been a few times where Sanrio had ventured  into the men market. There was the 2007 Hello Kitty for men line in Japan. A few years back Sanrio produced the  Hello Kitty X Kiss and  Hello Kitty  X Street Fighter  in Men’s and Women’s  sizes.  Now, it look like  Hello Kitty  ready to pounce back into the market with the Hello Kitty Men Project.

From the Japanese site:

Message from Hello Kitty

I hope this time  Sanrio Sanrio sell the items in the US.

Of course Hello KItty has one more thing going for her: nobody thought in 2007, a show about ponies, for little girls, would appeal to grown men.

How to Rip off a Buyer

First buy  plush at regular or discount.  I got the one on ht bottom at %60 off during the closeout sale normally $120 to $85 respectfully. Put it a bag  with a bow.  That makes it look expensive. Next miss-measure it by including the feet;  therefore , making a 24 inch plush look like  an 30” plush. I have a post how to correctly  measure  a Sanrio Plush.  Finally jack up the plush  price and roll in the cash.

This really gets to me. eBay is no longer  a reliable place to purchase Sanrio Items due in part of  changes to sellers policies that force out small sellers.

Sanrio Closes Store and Stock Tumbles

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2014-05-22/hello-kitty-in-mid-life-crisis-as-sanrio-licensing-focus-fades.html

We finally get word from Sanrio what going on:

“Sanrio Co., (8136) maker and licenser of Hello Kitty goods, plunged in Tokyo trading after analysts including Sho Kawano at Goldman Sachs Group Inc. cut targets for the company, citing a waning outlook for U.S. sales.”

“Kawano at Goldman lowered the estimate for operating profit in the year ending March by 7 percent, citing costs related to the company’s shift back to merchandise sales from a focus on licensing. Sanrio founder Shintaro Tsuji had previously sought to reduce the reliance on marketing Hello Kitty goods by licensing character rights to companies that make different items based on them.”

My Retort:

As a male fan who shops at Sanrio until it closed, the problem is, what’s licensing to us when there noting to buy and nowhere to shop except Sanrio.com . They closing all their US stores, and I do not think big box stores will take up the slack. There are other things they could had done; they could sell other charters like marketing Chococcat and Batz Maru to the males. If I was the CEO I would work The Hub and get Lauren Faust to reboot Hello Kitty and Friends. It worked for Hasbro, if Guys ie Bronies can like My Little Pony they can like Hello Kitty but unlike Hasbro, Sanrio wants the male market with the female market. Sanrio shot themselves in the foot.

EBay’s Detail Sellers Ratings Cassini Hurts Collectable Buyers

While I do not sell much Hello Kitty Items on the net, I noticed many of my sales of other items were dropping off. The problem is EBay has instituted a new Detail Sellers Rating (DSR) and the new Search algorithm, Cassini that rewards large institutional sellers and knock-off Chinese goods but hurt small and casual sellers. In the past both large and small casual sellers were treated equally on EBay. This system penalizes the casual market to the determent to sellers and collectable buyers alike.
