An Eulogy For Hello Kitty Online

Good Bye HKO

2009-2018

The last time I was able to log on to Hello Kitty On line was August 2017. All attempts to contact Sanrio Digital to get a status on Hello Kitty Online remains unanswered; therefore, I must conclude the rumors are true that Hello Kitty Online has ended and the servers taken down.

My own adventure started with the Beta on 2008 and the Founders Beta.  While Sanrio aimed the game at young female demographic, I could not help noticing the positive reviews and interest from male gamers.  The game had potential to be a hit.  I believe Sanrio mismanaged the distribution and promotion of Hello Kitty Online and squandered an opportunity.

Happy Birthday Mimmy and Kitty

I went on Hello Kitty online on 1st Nov. I Unlike Kitty’s birthday event there no decorations in Sanrio Harbor, no birthday quest or piñatas.

Then I went to London, the site of last year events; the site was barren.

Even without the crowds, the celebration quest, and other players and seemingly the abandonment of the game by Sanrio Digital I took time to say Happy Birthday to Kitty and Mimmy.

Sadly, I feel this may be the last time on HKO; a clear sign there limited development at Hello Kitty Online. Thanks to the GMs to put on some type of birthday event even through it not what I expected and hope for. .

Having A Get Off My Lawn Moment

The cane and clothing from New York makes me looks older.
Actually, my get off my lawn moment is about how Hello Kitty Online had become an insult. It is sad; I just did a Google search and confirm go play hello kitty online has became and insult, very different from 2009 when there was an interest and buzz from the gamer community. The biggest error was braking up the servers to different regions and outsourcing distribution to outside companies like Aeria Games. The decision to outsource had lead to a delayed beta and loss of momentum. In addition, it broke up the international socialization of the game and unnecessarily segmented the market. Other issues are, as other seen, the lack of advertising and not promoting and linking to Sanrio stores and events. HKO should been promoted though the Sanrio 50th anniversary events especially the LA and Miami events. Getting celebrity and their kids endorsements would do wonders.
How I would save the game. First, consolidate all servers to language groups. Second link promotions to Sanrio stores, store purchases can lead to earning coins. Finally fix the social networking aspect. Make guild mean something.
