Hello Kitty Gun Used to Spread Gun Story Misinformation

Hey media do not pin tragedy on Hello Kitty

From my regular blog

In a CNN I report  reports ” “Toy “Hello Kitty”AR-15, results in a 3 year old child’s death”  The problem is the story is a lie.

“In an article dated February 10, 2013 in the Houston Chronicle, states in an instance this month regarding the attached picture of a “Hello Kitty” AR-15 toy Assault Rifle was mistaken for the real thing, as a result, there was a shooting death of a 3 year old child in Greenville, SC.It’s this I-Reporters opinion that this kind of manufacturing of a toy AR-15 crosses the line. Something like this should not be happening, but yet it did. These type of manufacturers should be ashamed of themselves for making such a toy weapon.”

In a popup the story refers to a Greenville story of a three why killed by a gun by his sister who found a pink handgun gun unsecured in her grandmas home not a Hello Kitty AR-15 .

While sad and tragic, Houston Chronicle had pick up the story for its hit piece on gun ownership Marketing assault: Selling women on guns the original post shows a Pink Hello Kitty AR-15 with the caption “In one instance, a weapon like this ‘Hello Kitty’ AR-15 assault rifle was mistaken for a toy, which resulted in a death.”  This story was picked up by cnn.

The Houston Chronicle story chock full logical fallacies and a propaganda piece for the anti gun crowd. The owner of the Hello Kitty AR-15, David Christian, chimes in, calling Houston Chronicle    on the mat.

“The pink Hello Kitty rifle pictured above is NOT anything like the firearm that was involved in the referenced accidental shooting. I know for a fact because the rifle pictured above belongs to my wife as i built it for her. It is safely in our possession and I am frankly kind of outraged that it it’s image was used to push this inaccurate story!”

Caught in their bold faced lie Houston Chronicle changed the story picture

Now You see itNow You see it

Now you Dont

Now you don’t

Furthermore Sanrio forbids licensing of sharp objects, drugs, guns and hard alcohol and cigarettes. Hello Kitty guns are ether fakes, art installations or custom jobs not retail products. As a huge Hello Kitty fan and support of gun rights I find both offensive that the Houston Chronicle sinks so low to defame both.

Catching up: Yuko Yamaguchi carries on as nurturing parent of Hello Kitty

There some interesting snippets in the article

Why she was hired:

“She became the third Hello Kitty designer in 1980, two years after joining Sanrio straight out of arts university. With her two predecessors having left the company and with Kitty’s popularity declining, Yamaguchi’s mission was to recover sales.”

And as for the future’

“Asked about her next challenge, Yamaguchi said she wants to attract boys.”

“I want boys to join the superhero Ichigoman fan club. Unlike other Sanrio characters, Ichigoman is a fighting character. We aim to make it into an anime and ultimately making it a TV series of a story about a hero.”

already  Sario Japan had put out an    Ichigoman short

IT kind of cute but can it really reach boys? I think Darkcapeman (the black kitty) is a beet fit.

Antioch’s teen creator of ‘Hello Kitty rocket’ takes home regional science award

ANTIOCH — Though it’s been awhile since her weather balloon experiment to send a Hello Kitty toy almost 18 miles above the Earth hit the ground, Lauren Rojas hasn’t come down yet.

Rojas, 13, was awarded first place at the Association of Christian Schools International science fair competition for the Northern California region.

The science fair was held Friday at Cornerstone Christian School — where Rojas is a seventh-grader.

Awards were announced and passed out Friday afternoon. Her experiment beat six others in the junior high physical science category.”

A Change in Direction

I had been thinking about the direction of my blog for a while. When I started this blog it was about my love of Hello Kitty and other characters for a standpoint of being a Male fan, and in a way tweak Mr. Hello Kitty Hell.  But as I joined other sites like   Hello Kitty Junkies felt there something missing: in-depth news and commentary on the culture of Hello Kitty and Friends.  Most of site I been to are about shopping a displaying purchases; that fine I wanted more. I guess the issue being a vast majority of participating in the forum and blogs are women, A Men for Mars and Women from Venus is going on.

I going to make some changes to this blog, I still focus my life as a Male Hello Kitty fan but I going to add more new and commentary.

Change one the name: Thanks to an article the name for Hello Kitty fans is Kittilers not Kittyler, I was spelling wrong all this time.

The goals of my blog regardless of how little readers I get is :

1. A place to share my commentary on News and media involving the Culture of Sanrio  and Hello Kitty

2.    Yuko Yamaguchi: answered this question  in  an interview

Q:”What will Hello Kitty be doing in 10 years?

A: In 10 years’ time, everybody around the world will know her. Also, the number of male and female fans will be the same. Men who are still reluctant to be seen with Kitty in public today might be wearing Hello Kitty boxers. But they will eventually stop being shy and will show off Kitty proudly.

My goal is to see this happen.

3.  Still share  my life as a Male Hello Kitty Fan.

4. Have fun while doing 1, 2, and 3.

So I invite you to join me in my new endeavor.
