How Personalization is Wreaking my Internet Experience

Over the last few weeks I became frustrated with YouTube. My front page is full of listings of videos and channels Goggle thinks I am interested based on a faulty algorithm based on prior viewings. The problem is the suggestions that do not reelect my interest. Many of these recommendations are based on chance viewings, for example a friend’s posting on Facebook or a forum post. I have to constantly clearing out my video history because of a chance viewing to solve the problem of irrelevant suggestions.  Furthermore, I have little confidence of my Google searches because of personalization.

A little post on Halloween.

I am getting tired buy the alarmism by well meaning but wrong Christians. When Christian argues against Halloween, the arguments are often in a form of straw men and generalizations to outright false rumors of the occult, adults behaving badly,  with a sprinkling of bible verses like 1 Corinthians 10:23–24.  There is a big difference between European Pagan celebrations and the co-opted holiday celebrated in The US.  In America, the holiday is devoid of pagan spiritualism and more of a light celebration. Even in other countries Halloween is not celebrated like we in the US. For example, I was in Us Navy and my first liberty visit away for our home port in Japan was in the Philippines on Halloween. People world not trick or treat, no witches, ghost, or demons, but families would go up and visit and celebrate at the graves of passed away loved one. The hill in Olongapo where the cemetery is located was washed in specks of candlelight.

I grew up in the Episcopal Church (a different church back then) in the 1960’s and remember my mother making a costume for me as a devil. Halloween was just a day American co-opted for kids to have fun. The problem I see with the debauchery and excesses is when adults to get into it. I see both the secular camp wrong by bringing in debauchery and many in the Christian camps wrong with alarmism. I do respect the consciences   decision of many Christians not to participate; I feel the alarmism is not called for especially at many of us Christians who feel Halloween is no big problem. I care not to celebrate it or go to any Halloween parties, but leave it to the kids as it should be.

Who’s Afraid of the Big Government Shutdown Not I

The big news The Republican had done their job according to the US Constitution, they passed a budget in the House, but  decided to exercise their right not to fund Obamacare, all other areas of were funded.  Reid and Obama decide to go all or nothing strategy and chose to allow the government to shut down. The shutdown is like a dysfunctional family where the wife bans buying of groceries because the husband will not allow her to buy a bottle of perfume.

This is not a new strategy: The liberal love to spread the pain when they do not get their way. They did the thing in 1995 and when a local school  levy fails the cut  visible item like Music education and  sports rather than  bloated administration positions. Reid and Obama  could had just called passage of the budget and made Obamacare funding an issue next year, but no they had to act like jerks.

Jimmy Kimmel Exposes Serious Shortcoming with News Media

Jimmy Kimmel has played one of the best pranks with World Worst Twerking video

Not surprising this video has gone viral with thousands of views and picked up by major media outlets for their viral video section. Well there one problem it all a hoax.

What is disturbing to me is not Kimmel’s prank but how the news media is using information off internet without checking the factual reliability of the video. There is a growing and, in my opinion, alarming trend of news organizations reporting internet media as news without researching to see if the media is true. This is not the first time the mainstream liberal media has ripped internet media out of context and reported it as fact, some time ago I posted how the Houston Chronicle has reported Sanrio was licensing Hello Kitty Guns. This trend of fishing the internet for stories is another example how we cannot trust the accuracy and integrity of Mainstream news media.
