Beware of Josh Haygood Sex 2.01K in The Making?

An e-maile is going around the fandom:

My name is Josh and I’m a producer in New York working on a tv documentary about furries and the furry fandom. And since everybody asks, no I’m not a bot, and yes I am a real person (you can google my name). I had a chance to check out your AWESOME video and I’d like to know if you still keep in touch with the fursuiters. I’m trying to find some suiters who would be willing to participate in the doc we’re producing.

I’m really looking forward to hearing from you. Many thanks in advance.

You can check the rest of conversation here.  Mr. Haygood has tires to MTV and it looks like another plushies furries hack job. This guy had been thown out of FA. Mr. Haygood I know the media, the fandom  has been burnt once by MTV twisting the fandom into a sick fetish; not this time John not this time.

What Discovery Health Thinks of the Fandom?

I been listening in on the All Fur Fun Forums, The owner has been posting letters from (Freak ) Reality show produces who want to “Interview” furries.

“Hello,

My name is Michele Spinak and I work on a program you may be familiar with that airs on Discovery Health Channel called I’m Pregnant and…
The show airs Tuesday nights at 9:30pm. Four out of our six episodes have aired. They have been very successful so we have been asked to gear up for a second season.

We are doing our initial outreach for the second season and one topic we are looking to include is I’m Pregnant and…a Furry. I was hoping to speak with someone in greater detail about the program and the outreach I am doing. Please give me a call at your earliest convenience. I look forward to hearing from you.

Best,
Michele Spinak”

Some had don some research and found

  •  I’m Pregnant and Addicted
  • I’m Pregnant and Homeless
  • I’m Pregnant and I Have An Eating Disorder
  • I’m Pregnant and 55 Years Old
  • I’m Pregnant and Bipolar
  • I’m Pregnant and In Prison

The show sounds like another shock the audience reality shows.

If that not enough here another letter:

“I am also casting for another program for Discovery Health Channel called Strange Sex. We were looking to do a segment on Furries for that program as well. I know only some Furries are into the sexual aspect of it all. I was wondering if you could suggest people for me to reach out to about the program. We are just simply trying to tell the story of what it is because I think a lot of people have different conceptions about what being a furry really is.”

What in hell Mr. Spinak thinks we are, some freak show for his business aspirations.

To me he just another Hollywood schlock want to make a buck by pedaling trash TV,

The opinions expressed here are the views of the writer (Action) and do not necessarily reflect the views of the furry community nor posting of my opinion does not in any way enter a convenient relationship with the furry community.

In other words do lay this “why you are causing drama in the furry community” line on me. I am not you and you are not me. In addition, I never recalled joining your idea of community and have to sway over my life. Finally, you do not have to read what I am posting below the cut.

Orycon and Podcasts

I already registered and will be attending Orycon, The Science Fiction convention over the Thanksgiving weekend in Portland Oregon. I need to apologize for not pressing for furry events at Orycon. My recent stint of unemployment during Spring and Summer had me wondering will I still me living in Oregon in November less going to Orycon. I have we can perhaps do a meal or a meet and greet.

I will not be volunteering at Orycon as I said in my earlier. Instead I want to give attention to the furry community and Rainfurrest. If they ask for a few hours, I will give it to them. My decision is probably 60% not knowing how to volunteer at Orycon, 20% the  Orycon  staff culture which  tends to be a closed tight nit group and 20% bad experiences  include the flap about trying to get promotional martial to take with me to Rainfurrest.  There seem to be no place for an old fur. This begs question was there a problem with me or because I am a furry.  If the later, I hope not, perhaps we need to question how much support we can expect from Oregon Science Fiction Conventions concerning bringing furry convention to Portland. I think it is prudent some of us to talk to furries who sponsored events at Orycon 29 and earlier about their experiences first.

On a brighter topic thanks to Woyro I tuned into Anthropomorphic Dreams Blog and downloaded s reading of anthropomorphic fiction to listen to at work. I found The Thing in the Toyshop interesting. Nice Furry fiction grounded in Fury’s Science Fiction Roots. I need to get away for political podcast for a while.

Michael Cogliantry's Sex Lies and Camera Film

MR. Cogliantry is  in Willamette Week touting his new book Furvert a so called peek into the furry fandom. There was some choice material in his interview:

Not exactly. When I first had the idea I started going online onto furry forums; I wanted to schedule the shoot during a furry convention. But the conventions bar the media—they won’t allow any outside photographers in. Eventually I decided to just do what I wanted to do…it’s not a documentary. I got one letter that said, “Obviously this isn’t real. But if you ever want to shoot the real thing, contact me.” And then others that say, “This [the sex stuff] never happens.”

No exactly how about no, I read a few sites and suddenly I was an expert.

My reply as follows:

I am a furry here in Portland. To say that we are just about having sex in costume strikes me as no different of a stereotype as saying as Black males, like me, eat only fried chicken and watermelon. I still see MR. Cogliantry work as a form of furry blackface in the way mistrals of old use blackface to project their own stereotypes. The furry community is quite diverse both in make-up and interest. There are some weird exhibitionist types as was as decent moral people, the fandom is not about whom one can get into bed but an interest in anthropomorphism.  In our furmeets here in Portland, our small group has gays, a straights and even me a Christian, right of center Black Republican.

Your interview says a lot about you, an artist/journalist in a long line of those who has done no research and relies on serotypes to publish misconceptions about the fandom and exploiting the misconceptions to make a buck.

PS. There reason the media is banned form out furry conventions is because you like the media are not going to report the truth. Furries, along with Conservative Republican and Fundamentalist Christians are groups the media fail to report things right. Secondly your acts in public and in your book will not be tolerated by both the Hotel and Furry
