The Dates May 26-28 May 2017

Furlandia is Oregon’s and Southwest Washington Furry convention now in its fifth year.  I brought Kiju Kitty on Saturday and Chococat plush on Friday and Sunday.

This report is going to be short because I did not attend until Friday evening due to a new job and I did not submit any panels due to job uncertainty.  I check out the space, went to dinner and took a peak at the dance. Only “adult” panes were being run, so I went home.

Saturday, I had my big breakfast at Hometown Buffet, and went back to the hotel. I checked out Pepper Coyote and Fox Amoore consort. The songs were well preformed and both Pepper and Fox kept the audience engaged. I only attended the Starfleet International panel got dinner and hang around until late. Sunday after church, I attended the dance contest finals and the closing ceremony.

The Good: Pepper Coyote and Fox Amoore consort and seeing the younger furs, most fewer than 16 having fun. Many of them made their own fursuit / fursuit heads whey was quite good.  It great Furlandia acknowledge   the under 16 furries are a part of the fandom as us Greamuzzles at the other end.

A Special shout out goes to Queenie Deerheart who preformed most of her MC duties in Fursuit.

The bad Not enough panels, I share the blame for not submitting any doe to my unemployment situation.

The Ugly the guy in the rubber dragon mask at the parade, he seemed to cross the line with his touching of fursuiters at the parade.

I enjoyed Furlandia, but 2017 maybe my last. Because my career is stuck in a rut, and a desire to more to a Republican controlled state, I may have to move to Seattle, Silicon Valley, Texas or North Carolina

Newcon Con Report

The convention: Newcon 5

The Place: Marriot Waterfront, Portland Oregon.

The dates: 30 Dec 2016 – 1 Jan 2017

Newcon is Portland Multi-Genre con. Both my Big Kitties and Chocat were my companions,

Friday: I pack up my badge on Thursday learning from my mistake last year. I missed the opening ceremony and head to the panel room for my first panel I hosted, “Media Pet peeves: The things that writers, and producers do that drives us nuts.” It was well received. After I was done I rove around the space until the Nerdcore Hip Hop History w/ Mega Ran panel and How to be Successful on YouTube w/ Mr. Creepy Pasta .The video room was not set up so I checked out last of the acts during Open mike then ate dinner and attended Scary Stories w/ Mr. Creepy Pasta to see what the fuss is all about. Then I called it a day.

Saturday: I decided to take breakfast at the Hotel then set up for my second panel Furries of the NW Newcon edition. props to Chimichanga Fix for helping me out. I checked out the end of the Lip Synch Battle and the more G –PG Creepy Pasta Story time w/ Mr. Creepy Pasta, Then I check out the rest of the Cosplay contest before going out for dinner. Thanks to KGW hype on the weather I went home at 10:00 thinking I would be stuck . But after realizing KGW Weather team is full of it,   it was just bull, I head back to con space with my travel Hello Kitty and went to Drink & Draw in the New Years which had no drink and ended too early. So I went to the rave to ring in the New Year before heading home. and drop off the car.

Sunday: if the weather hype was not enough the Weather people was wrong, I took transit after church, went to Mod Pizza and back to the Hotel . The panels that interested mw was Janet Varney and the Johnny Scotch Music. I just hung around after that till closing ceremonies

The Good: Another great fan convention .

The Bad:   Drink and Draw ending early, video not up and running.

The Ugly: nothing

Newcon is growing to be an important asset Portland geek community I hope it the con it will grow more diverse covering more than just anime.

Kumoricon 2016 Con Report

The Con: Kumoricon 2016

The Place: Oregon Convention center

The dates  28- 30 October  2016

Kumoricon is Portland’s premier Anime convention. This  year, Kumoricon became the second geek convention to  moved into the  convention center. My 26” Hello Kitty was my companion on Friday, My Kigu Kitty on Saturday and Chococat was my companion on Sunday.

Rose City Comic Con Report

The Con: Rose City  Comic Con

The Place: Oregon Convention  Center

The Dates  10-11 September 2016.

Rose City Comic Con is  Portland  Own  Comic Con  and Media Conventions. I took Chococat with me Friday and  Kiju Hello Kitty II on Sunday.

Friday and Saturday: I Went to the kickoff party  down town Portland on Friday. I wanted  to get to  the convention site Saturday without having to  wait in line. I got a free beer sample and  listed to a songs from a band that was part Rock and Nerdcore  rap.

Saturday I got up later than I wanted, head down to the Bear Dinner for breakfast before  heading out to the convention center  I missed  the Behind the scenes : Vintage Tomorrows panels but I did  catch my only celebrity panels   the  Min-Na When  of  Agents of Shield fame.  I was disappointed the host went straight to  questions, but MS  was still entertaining. One thing I note  Ms. Wen’s  personality is totally  the opposite of  her portrayal  of  agent  Melinda May.   I just hung around took pictures and  caught some of the lip synch battle  before  getting dinner than attending the  Cosplay contest.

Sunday  I  did  the voice  actors panel then  The Important  Of Fandoms panel. I spent the rest of the time  buying a  sketch   of cover art by Keith Tucker and  watch my fellow furs  have fun fursuiting the convention before Rocs City Comic con chased  us out at 5:00pm.

The good  having another convention to go to.

The bad: I wash there was more content at the panels, not just the starts but writer of shows and more behind the scenes look. Perhaps a few industry panels.

The ugly:  Food prices at the con or as I call it The $9-$10 dollars con. Give me a break. Ok you invited a few food carts, but pleas $9 for  a $6 burrito. What with Ninkasi Brewing, I like the free beer ion Friday but  $9 pints at the convention and not to be outdone  and the  Oregon Conventions’ catering was selling  10 oz bottles for $9! at the cosplay contest.  To prove my point I got a 22 ounce Total Domination IPA for $3.48 at Winco. What a rip-off.

I was originally  going to make this year my last Comic con style convention but I still had so much fun I will be back in 2017.

Anime PDX Mini Con Mini-Report

Anime  PDX was a one day event, sponsored by Newconpdx  and   on August  6, 2016 at the  Portland Marriott Downtown Waterfront.  I left a little latter because There was not much in the way of panels that interested me.    I brought my Kiju Kitty two to the event.  I still had a lot of fun and attended the Anime Game show panel and the rest of the Lip Synch Battle event.

One the biggest news out of  Anime Pdx is next year Amine PDX will be a full blown three day Anime convention. in 2017. I asked the Chairman about  will it saturate Portland with another anime convention; he made a good point about need a summer con, after  the school year, especially  Kumoricon moved to the fall. Then again Newcon has a heavy Anime  presence.
